I bet Steven Cohen doesn’t have one of these.
But Russell Cohen does.
The Nobody Beats the Wiz Mets card set was produced in 1991. Once the Mets owner finds out about it, he can certainly buy it, but even trying to piece it together one card at a time or with the three sealed uncut sheet packages, is a chore.
As illustrated here, it shows that there are 439 cards and 10 checklists. This is a massive set. It was said that it had every player that played for the Mets from 1962-1990.
The cards are small and perforated. Some are sold online as singles, but
I suggest trying to get the full uncut sheets.
I saw these at a show in the 1990s. I have no idea what you had to do to get them or what you had to purchase at The Wiz. But there were about five or six stacks of the first two sets ta this particular show. I bought one of each, though I forget what I paid at the time.
There was a third set that was placed at the dealer’s table. There were
only three of those and I bought one. I realized quickly if I didn’t get
one, I wasn’t going to have the complete set, and what’s the point of that?
There are some names here you won’t remember. I can guarantee that. A couple of my favorites are Brent Strom, because I was at one of his five starts with the Mets and he ended up a World Series champion as pitching coach with the Astros, and Don Hahn, the no-hit, great-glove center fielder from the 1970s.
In the end, I would value three packs of the complete uncut sheets
including the 10% off at the Wiz certificate inside at $100-$300, based on
condition. It must be a complete set and uncut. That's important. If
you have the full set but the cards are torn off, I’d say it’s still worth
$100. But some of the cards are selling for $2.50 apiece on eBay. I would suggest not purchasing them that way.
But do try and land this rare Nobody Beats the Wiz Mets card set.
