Seat on the Korner: Victor Caratini
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.
Victor Caratini earns the seat on the Korner for his 2-3 night and 2 run game tying Home Run against Max Scherzer
Need to Know
Max Scherzer made his 14th start of the season tonight, he gave the Mets 6 solid innings with the only blemish coming on a 2 run home run to Victor Caratini who now has gone 10-20 with 2 home runs against Mad Max.Max closes out the first half of the season at 7-2 with a 3.87 ERA .Max has not last a game since May 3.
Tommy Pham has safely hit in 17 of his last 20 games... Over the last 20 games, Pham is batting .324 (25-77 with 11 runs, seven doubles, three home runs, 15 RBI, six walks, four steals )
Brett Baty and Brandon Nimmo hitting 9th and 1st in the lineup hit back to back home runs in the 3rd inning which was the first time in franchise history that starters in the 9th and 1st spot in the lineup accomplished the feat.
With Mark Canha's steal of third base in the bottom of the ninth, The Mets have continued their consecutive streak of stealing bases without being caught to 35 straight, continuing a franchise record.
The Mets are now 23-10 when scoring first this season.
For the second game in a row a Met starter held the opposition to 2 runs and left game with the score tied only for the Brewers to take the lead the very next inning.
The Mets have now lost 18 of their last 24 and are 9 games below .500.
Turning Point
The Turning Point of the game was in the bottom of the 7th after the Brewers took a 3-2 lead on 2 infield hits, a hit batsman and a sac fly. The Mets looked to do the same as the Mets loaded the bases on a single, an error ,and a hit batsman, Starling Marte who has great career numbers with the bases loaded, came up with 1 out and promptly hit into an inning ending double play.
Three Keys
Leaking Pen
Once again the bullpen lets the Mets down, T.J. McFarland recorded one out before giving up a single and hitting a batter , he gave way to Dominic Leone who gave up a infield single and a sac fly to Brian Anderson to give the Brewers the lead,
No Support
For the second night in a row a Mets starter did his job on the mound, and for the second night in a row there was very little support from the Mets offense. The Mets had nice hits tonight, but despite having the bases loaded in the 7th and ninth they were only able to score 2 runs on Baty and Nimmo's solo Home runs.
Say Uncle
The Mets are now 0-2 since Owner Steve Cohen's press conference where he challenged the players to play up to their potential.
