Lindor's Amazing Offense and Senga's Stellar Pitching lead Mets 4th Straight Win

Mets 13 Cardinals 2 (Busch Stadium, St. Louis MO)

Mets record: 58-66

Mets streak: Won 4

WP - Kodai Senga (10-6)

LP - Miles Mikolas (6-9)

Seat on the Korner: Francisco Lindor

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to Francisco Lindor, who exploded offensively tonight, going 4-5, scoring 3 runs and bringing 1 in. This continues Lindor's hitting streak to 6 games, batting .423 during that stretch with 5 RBIs, and 7 runs.

Need to Know

  • With a win tomorrow the Mets' can sweep the Cardinals which will be their first sweep of a series since the series against the Diamondbacks July 4-6.

  • The Mets are now 27-38 on the road this year.

  • Jeff McNeil has now hit safely in 13 of his last 15 games.

  • With his first strike out of the night, Kodai Senga became the 7th pitcher in Mets history with 150 strikeouts in his rookie season. Senga went 7 innings tonight, only giving up 2 hits and 1 run on a home run by Nolan Arenado. Senga also struck out 5 batters and walked 2.

  • Pete Alonso's home run tonight was the third longest of his career at 466 ft.

  • The Mets are now 37-10 when their starter throws at least 6.0 innings.

  • Cardinals' pitcher Miles Mikolas gave up a season high 7 runs tonight.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point of the game came on a double steal in the top of the first inning after Pete Alonso struck out. Jeff McNeil stole second for his 6th stolen base of the year, and Francisco Lindor stole home for his 21st steal of the year.

From there, the Mets were able to pile on the runs and give Kodai Senga all the support he needed to pick up the W. The Mets scored 13 runs from hits such as ANOTHER DJ Stewart home run, his 5th of the season, and Daniel Vogelbach's grand salami in the top of the 5th.

Three Keys

Senga: Kodai Senga has had a great year for the Mets. In his first year pitching in the United States, Kodai has posted a 3.19 ERA with only 61 walks and 154 strikeouts. His record is only 10-6, but that is because it was a struggle all season long for the offense to give Senga support.

DJ Stewart: DJ Stewart has been one of the best players on the Mets as of late. In his last 7 games, Stewart has been batting .263 with 4 home runs and 7 RBIs, which just goes to show you how well some of the call ups from the minors have been filling in.

Tonight, not only did DJ Stewart hit a home run, but his clutch looper into left in the top of the 9th made the game 13-2:

Alonso: With his home run tonight and a good performance defensively, Pete Alonso has proved that he deserves a good contract, and the Mets need to take action next off season.

This month, he is tied with Matt Olson in the major leagues with home runs, and the stats don't end there. In his last 28 games, Alonso is batting .287 with 18 extra base hits, including 12 home runs. It is safe to say that Alonso has been great for the Mets, and was a large part of why they were able to sweep this series. Pete is a huge fundamental of this squad, and deserves to be a Met for as long as he is playing.
