Seat on the Korner: JT Realmuto

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to JT Realmuto, whose 2 run single in the bottom of the 4th opened up the scoring for the Phillies. He went 2-4 tonight with another single and a strikeout.

Need to Know

  • Pete Alonso fell silent tonight, going 0-4 with 3 strikeouts.

  • Ronny Mauricio was only 1 of 3 Mets tonight with a hit, having the only 2 RBIs of the game for the Mets on his 2 run home run in the top of the 6th.

  • Butto struggled tonight, giving up 4 runs on just 4 hits in 4 innings pitched . He walked 2 batters and struck out 5.

  • The other 2 Mets with hits tonight were DJ Stewart and Tim Lacastro.

  • With their loss on Friday, the Mets were officially eliminated from playoff contention.

Turning Point

Tonight's turning point of the game was the bottom of the 4th when JT Realmuto had a two run single and Nick Castellanos had a 2 run home run to break open the lead for the Phillies 4-0.

From there, the Mets fell silent, only getting two runs on 3 hits from the Ronny Mauricio home run.

Three Keys

Jose Butto: Butto struggled tonight, going 4 innings and allowing 4 earned runs on 4 hits and walking 2.

Even though tonight was a struggle for Butto, he has been very good for the Mets since rejoining the rotation. In the month of September, Butto has given up only 8 runs in 21.1 innings with an ERA of 3.38, striking out 24 batters.

Offensive Offense: Run support has been abysmal this year for the Mets, especially tonight. We saw nothing from the big guys tonight, especially Pete Alonso, who is searching for his big contract. Tonight, Alonso went 0-4 with 3 strike outs. McNeil in the leadoff spot went 0-4 and Lindor went 0-2 with a walk.

Francisco Alvarez: Tonight, Francisco Alvarez left the game early after being hit in the hand with multiple foul balls. Buck Showalter reported that he was diagnosed with a finger contusion and that his X-Rays were negative. Alvarez reminded everyone after the game that "It's just part of the game":
