Seat on the Korner:

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat on the Korner belongs to Tyrone Taylor. The red-hot Taylor went 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in. His crucial 2-out single in the 6th inning extended the Mets' lead to 4-1 at the time. With this performance, he's now boasting a .341 batting average for the season and possesses an impressive .841 OPS.

Turning Point

The turning point in today's game came during the entirety of the 6th inning. It started with Luis Severino pitching a solid 6 innings without allowing an earned run, retiring the Pirates in order for the first time in the game. As the bottom of the 6th rolled in, the momentum shifted. There was a pitching change as Hunter Stratton replaced Bailey Falter. The inning's events unfolded with Francisco Lindor singling on a ground ball to center fielder Jack Suwinski, followed by a wild pitch from Stratton advancing Lindor to second. Pete Alonso then walked, setting the stage for Jeff McNeil's sacrifice bunt (despite what Gary Cohen thought would happen) that moved Lindor to third and Alonso to second with one out. Francisco Alvarez popped out to second baseman Alika Williams for the second out. However, Tyrone Taylor came through with a clutch two-run single, driving in Lindor and Alonso, putting the Mets ahead 4-1. Shortly after, Harrison Bader launched a homer to left field, scoring Taylor and extending the Mets' lead to 6-1.

Three Keys

SEVERINO FINALLY EXPERIENCES THE JOY OF SIX

Luis Severino has finally completed 6 innings as a starter for the Mets after four attempts. His success was aided by inducing Connor Joe to ground into an inning ending double play in the top of the 5th inning. He becomes only the second Mets starter this season to achieve this feat, with Jose Butto accomplishing it in his two starts.

HARRISON HOMER OR BADER GOES BOOM

Harrison Bader hit his first home run as a New York Met in the bottom of the 6th inning, extending the Mets' lead to 6-1. With this home run, Bader has safely hit in nine of his last 12 games. During this period, he's batting .325 (13-40) with eight runs, one double, five RBIs, and two walks.

STARLING SILVER SLUGGER

Starling Marte hit the 150th home run of his career today. With two RBIs in the game, he's now just one RBI shy of reaching 600. His two-run homer in the third inning gave the Mets a 2-1 lead.
