Seat on the Korner: Patrick Bailey

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Giants catcher Patrick Bailey had 1 hit tonight, but it was a big hit, he is now riding a career-best 11-game hitting streak he's the first Giants rookie to record a 11- game hitting streak since Buster Posey in 2010...Bailey's 11- game hitting streak is the third-longest active such streak by a rookie, trailing STL's Jordan Walker (17) and COL's Ezequiel Tovar (12) . On top of his 3 run home run he also threw out Starling Marte and now has thrown out 11-of-28 (39.0%) basestealers with SF. The Giants are 20-9 when he starts behind the plate.

Turning Point

The Mets took a 2 run lead into the top of the 8th inning, Buck called on David Robertson after Jeff Brigham and Brooks Raley kept the Giants off the board, Robertson struck out Wilmer Flores but Joc Pederson reached on a throwing error by first baseman Pete Alonso, the usually dependable Robertson preceded to walk J.D. Davis and gave up a 3 run home run to Patrick Bailey to put the Giants up 5-4.

Three Keys

Pen-demic

Once again the bullpen lets the Mets down, this time it's the most dependable reliever of them all as David Robertson coughed up the lead in the 8th.

Hello Old Friends

OF Michael Conforto and IF J.D. Davis are returning to Citi Field for the first time since no longer playing for the New York Mets...Conforto helped the Mets to a World Series berth in his rookie season in Flushing in 2015 and was a Met from 2015-2021...Davis donned the blue and orange from 2019 until being acquired last season by the Giants at the Trade Deadline...this series also marks another return for IF Wilmer Flores to Flushing... Flores, like Conforto, began his career with the Mets. Both J.D. Davis and Wilmer Flores were in the starting lineup. They were a combined 1 for 9, the one being Wilmer Flores 5th inning home run, his 8th of the season.

Bench Clearer

Both the Mets and Giants used their entire bench (Conforto was not available)

Starling Marte entered the game as a pinch runner in the bottom of the ninth and was promptly thrown out ending the Mets franchise-record 35 consecutive bases without being caught...The last time a Mets player had been thrown out attempting a stolen base was on May 10 (Francisco Lindor at second).
