Mike's Met Of The Month, August 2024: Francisco Lindor

There is just one month left in the 2024 regular season and the New York Mets are still alive. This is undoubtedly a pleasant surprise for most fans who entered the season with low expectations but the Mets mostly played .500 ball through the dog days of summer, going 15-13 in 28 games to keep themselves afloat for the stretch run.

The slightly above-average play didn't lead to a ton of exciting contributors as most of the roster delivered slightly above-average results. While David Peterson (3-0, 1.86 ERA in five starts) made a strong case for Met of the Month honors, the title is going home with shortstop Francisco Lindor for the second straight month.

Lindor bolstered his MVP candidacy by carrying the team at the plate, hitting .325 with six home runs, 16 RBI and a .939 OPS in 28 games. Some of those hits came in the clutch, including a grand slam against San Diego late in the month to help the Mets secure a critical win against a team they are chasing in the Wild Card standings. While it appears Lindor is still chasing Los Angeles Dodgers' star Shohei Ohtani in the MVP balloting, a strong finish could help him make a serious case for that honor as well as a third straight Met Of The Month.

Previous Mets Of The Month:
