Mike's Met Of The Month, June 2024: Brandon Nimmo

There may not be a more stark difference in franchise history on a month-to-month basis than what the New York Mets experienced in May and June. While May was an outright disaster that challenged even the greatest June swoons in recent memory, this June proved to be a month of immaculate vibes for the team. The Mets went 16-8 in June to climb from the third-worst record in the National League to one game under the break-even mark in the span of 30 calendar days, potentially saving their season in the process.

While the Mets did get solid pitching over the course of June, their turnaround came courtesy of the offense, which posted an .865 OPS and .507 slugging percentage for the month of June, which established new franchise records for a single month in both of those metrics. The Mets got plenty of dominant offensive performances from Francisco Lindor (.290/4 HR/11 RBI/7 SB), J.D. Martinez (.272/4/20), Pete Alonso (.272/5/19), Mark Vientos (.277/7/17), Francisco Alvarez (.375/3/12) and Jose Iglesias (.444 batting average in 36 at bats). While any of them could be a worthy Met of the Month winner, the June honors go to outfielder Brandon Nimmo.

The Mets got some elite offensive production from Nimmo, who hit .315 with six home runs and a team-high 21 RBIs in the month of June. Nimmo was the Mets' best offensive player in terms of OPS, recording an outstanding 1.003 OPS mark in 92 at bats, putting him on pace to set new career highs in RBI and potentially home runs as well. The move out of the leadoff spot challenged Nimmo to be more productive in RBI situations and he has certainly risen to the occasion for the Mets, earning him the latest Met of the Month honors for this season.
