Nothing Brewing for Mets in Milwaukee, lose 9-0

Game 6 of 162

Brewers 9 - Mets 0 (American Family Field, Milwaukee)

Mets record: 3-3

Mets streak: Lost 2

WP - Wade Miley (1-0)

LP - Max Scherzer (1-1)

Seat on the Korner: Brian Anderson

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9

broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Brian Anderson followed up his 2-for-3, 3 RBI effort on Monday by driving in another six runs Tuesday against the Mets. The first three came off Max Scherzer. Anderson set the tone early with a two-out double that drove in a pair in the first inning and then ended Scherzer's night with a solo home run in the sixth. Anderson wasn't done as he hit a 3-run homer against Brooks Raley in the 7th inning. The 29-year-old only had 8 home runs and 28 RBI in 338 at bats last season with the Marlins. The change of scenery from Miami seems to agree with Anderson who has 3 home runs and 10 RBI in 15 at bats so far with the Brewers.

Need to Know

*Max Scherzer allowed three consecutive home runs in the 6th inning. It was the second time in his MLB career this happened; the first time was in 2017 at Chase Field when David Peralta, A.J. Pollock and Jake Lamb began the game against the Nationals with three straight home runs against Scherzer. Rowdy Tellez, Anderson and Garrett Mitchell went back-to-back-to-back Tuesday against Mad Max.

*Over Scherzer's last three regular-season starts, dating back to his last start against the Braves in 2022, he has allowed seven runs and five home runs in the 6th inning.

*The Mets have been shut out two games in a row. They lost 10-0 to the Brewers on Monday and have now gone 20 innings without scoring a run, dating to Sunday against the Marlins.

*The Mets have now lost 17 of their last 20 games in Milwaukee.

*Francisco Lindor and Pete Alonso combined to go 0-for-8, stranding six runners.

*Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil were the lone offensive bright spots for the Mets. Nimmo was 3-for-4 and McNeil was 3-for-3 with an HBP.

*Starling Marte helped turn a rare 9-3 double play.

*Denyi Reyes saw action after being called up Tuesday to replace Tommy Hunter, who went on the IL with back spasms. Hunter is the ninth Mets pitcher on the 40-man roster to hit the IL already this season. Reyes retired the two batters he faced in the 6th inning.

Turning Point

With the Mets struggling offensively and already trailing by two runs, Tellez, Anderson and Mitchell hit three straight home runs to give the Brewers an insurmountable 5-0 lead in the 6th inning .

Three Keys

Lindor and Alonso, who combined for 238 RBI last season, have combined to drive in three runs the first week this season. They both appear lost at the plate and have struggled to find their groove.

It is not all on Lindor and Alonso, though. The Mets left eight men on base Tuesday, one day after leaving nine men on base, they were outscored 19-0 and shut out in consecutive games for the first time since June 21-22, 2021 against the Braves. The Mets were not shut out until game 53 last season and only eight times all of last season. With Mets offense struggling, but only trailing 2-0 in the 5th, the Mets had Eduardo Escobar and McNeil on base with Tomas Nido, maybe one of the Mets best sacrifice bunters on the team, up. Buck Showalter let Nido hit away, and he struck out. Nimmo then hit into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.
