Game 79 of 162
Mets 7 - Brewers 2 (Citi Field, New York)
Mets record: 36-43
Mets streak: Win 1
WP - David Peterson (2-6)
LP - Julio Teheran (2-3)
Seat on the Korner: Brandon Nimmo
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.
Brandon Nimmo was the catalyst for the Mets' offense in their win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Nimmo led off the 4th inning with a 105 MPH blast into the bullpen in right field and then, in his following at-bat, lifted a ball over the wall in left-center field for his 2nd four-bagger in as many at-bats. The 30-year-old centerfielder's two-home run night gives him double digits on the season.
Need to Know
David Peterson was very strong in his first major league start in almost a month and a half. Peterson scattered 5 hits, issued 3 walks, and struck out 5 Milwaukee bats over 6 scoreless innings.
Francisco Lindor had a productive night at the plate, going 2 for 4 including a solo shot in the 4th inning.
Daniel Vogelback snapped an 0-11 hitless with a two-hit evening that included a home run, two runs scored, and a pair of RBIs.
Drew Smith rebounded from a night ago, pitching a scoreless 7th inning despite walking two batters.
The Mets will look to build on this solid outing in the third game of this four-game set as Kodai Senga takes the ball.
Turning Point
After only scoring 1 run through the first 12 innings of this series, Brandon Nimmo and Francisco Lindor provided a much-needed spark for the New York Mets offense. Nimmo led off the 4th inning with a solo shot and was followed two batters later by Lindor who did the same. The Mets' offense began to pick up after this mini-power surge and went on to post 7 runs on the evening.
3 Keys
Bad Brigham
Jeff Brigham’s struggles continued in Tuesday’s win as the 31-year-old relief arm could not get through a full inning of work, allowing two earned runs on two hits and a pair of free passes.
Nimmo’s Night
Nimmo’s power display was a welcome sight for the Mets faithful, as fans and the organization have always hoped for more slugging out of the former first-round pick.
Peterson’s Performance
David Peterson returned from Triple-A and looked like a new pitcher, shutting down the Brewers lineup and providing the Mets with a much-needed arm in a struggling rotation.
