Seat on the Korner: Bryson Stott

We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Bryson Stott earns the Seat on the Korner today, going 2-4 today including a home run in the top of the 9th that started the Phillies' comeback.

Need to Know

  • Sean Manaea pitched a really good game in which the Mets did provide run support. He went 6 innings for the first time this season, allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 6. Here are his numbers:

  • A controversial call in the top of the 9th when Whit Merrifield swung his bat past the plane, and first base umpire Ryan Additon called that he didn't swing. This loaded the bases for the Phillies, where another close call on a hit by pitch to Alec Bohm sent in the winning run for the Phillies.

  • Sean Reid-Foley gave up his first run of the year this year in the top of the 10th when a wild pitch and then a flyout sent Bryce Harper from second to home.

  • The Mets are now 266-266-1 against the Phillies at home (Polo Grounds, Shea Stadium and Citi Field).

Turning Point

The turning point of the game occurred in the top of the 9th inning with the Bryson Stott home run.

From there, the Phillies scored two runs, one more in the top of the 9th, then one in the top of the 10th to lead to their victory over the Mets.

Three Keys

Bad Calls

The umpires were the center of attention during this Mets' loss, making 2 controversial calls that led to the Phillies coming back and leaving this game victorious. Many people on social media are calling for the MLB to investigate the umpires, including this man:

Trumpets go Quiet...

Edwin Diaz has been not so hot for the Mets this season. So far, he has a 3.24 ERA and has already allowed more home runs this year than he did last season. Carlos Mendoza spoke about him post-game, saying "He's going through it right now."

Fightin' Phils

The Phillies, according to many power rankings, are currently the hottest team in baseball. They are sitting at a 29-13 record, which leads the NL East, NL and Major League Baseball.
