Phillies 10, Mets 5 (Citizens Bank Park)
Mets Record: 19-23
Mets Streak: L3
WP: Ranger Suarez (8-0)
LP: Joey Lucchesi (0-1)
Seat On The Korner: Bryce Harper
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.
Tonight's Seat on the Korner belongs to Bryce Harper, who tonight went 3-5, bringing in 2 runs, batting in 3, and hitting the first home run of the game in the bottom of the first that started the Phillies domination.
Need To Know
Phillies' pitcher Ranger Suarez has continued to dominate this season, being one of the best pitchers in the league. Today, he picked up his 8th win of the season, the most in Major League Baseball. He also has the third best ERA in the MLB, and is 11th in the league for strike outs. Tonight, he continued his hot streak, going 5 innings, allowing 2 runs which none were earned, and striking out 3. His ERA is now 1.37.
Yesterday, the Phillies reached 30 wins in 43 games, the second fastest in franchise history to 30 wins.
Joey Lucchesi made his first start of the season today, going 4.1 innings, allowing 5 runs and striking out 2.
In his first game back after being sent up from Triple-A, Mark Vientos went 2-4 with a double in the top of the first that scored a run, and a single in the top of the 8th.
Turning Point
Joey Lucchesi seems to have some trouble being in the major leagues, and tonight only proved that further. In the first inning, he gave up a home run to Bryce Harper, which from there gave the Phillies room to score 9 more runs, 4 of which were off Lucchesi.
Three Keys
No Luck for Lucchesi
Tonight, in his first start of the season, Joey Lucchesi went 4.1 innings, allowing 5 hits and 5 earned runs. The bottom of the 5th inning was a disaster for Lucchesi, where he allowed 4 runs and 3 walks.
JD Martinez
In his 18 games with the Mets, JD Martinez continues to make his mark with his new team. In his last 7 games, he has a .321 average with 9 hits, 2 home runs, and 5 RBIs, including a home run tonight:
Error Error (like a DJ)
Tonight, even though they only had two errors, they were ugly. Firstly, in the bottom of the 6th, a ground ball to Jeff McNeil was thrown past Pete Alonso which scored a run to make it 7-2 Phillies. Then in the bottom of the 7th Francisco Lindor bobbled a ball that let in a run to make it 8-2 Phillies. These errors are costly, which goes to show that the Mets need to clean up their fielding with men on. These errors even made a Mets fan so angry that he left in anger:
