Seat On The Korner:
We select the star of the game and virtually invite him to a Seat on the Korner, just as Ralph Kiner used to do for his studio postgame show on WOR-channel 9 broadcasts in the early decades of the Mets.

Today's Seat On The Korner goes to Tylor Megill, who controlled the Blue Jays bats for 5.1 innings en route to his second win of the young season. The righty starter delight the Citi Field faithfull in the Mets home opener, as he kept Toronto off the scoreboard. Megill yielded just 2 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4, tossing just 82 pitches in the process.
Need To Know:
The Mets are now 42-22 (.656) in home openers, and 12-5(.706) in home openers at Citi Field. The Mets have now won their home opener in 5 of the last 6 seasons.
The team honored their 2000 and 2015 World Series squads with John Franco, Al Leiter, Juan Lagares, and Bartolo Colon throwing out the first pitch.
The Mets went 46-34 at Citi Field last season, and 43-38 at Citi Field in 2023.
This was Megill's fourth career start against the Toronto Blue Jays. He is now 2-0 against them with a 0.41 ERA, 10 walks and 23 strikeouts.
While the Mets were held to 4 hits, all 4 of them were for extra bases (3 doubles, 1 home run).
Brandon Nimmo has now reached base safely in all seven of the Mets games this season.
Turning Point
It's not often that a turning point occurs on the third batter of the game, but that was the case today. Pete Alonso knocked a 1-2 pitch over the right field fence to give the Mets a 2-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Really though, it was more than just that. On a day full of cheers, Alonso received some of the loudest even before taking the field. Mets fans didn't hold back in letting Alonso (and Mets ownership) know how happy they were to have him back in Queens. The Polar Bear rewarded the fans with his opposite field shot, and subsequent curtain call. Alonso now has 3 home runs on the season and 229 for his career, putting him just 13 behind David Wright for #2 on the Mets all-time list (and 23 behind leader, Darryl Strawberry).
Three Keys:
Setting the Tone
After a 1-2-3 top of the first, Francisco Lindor stepped up to the plate looking to double-down (so to speak) on the Citi Field vibes. Lindor lined the first pitch to left field for what looked like a single. Instead, Lindor hustled his way to second base sliding headfirst in a bang-bang play. Initially declared out by second base umpire Doug Eddings, Lindor jumped up and confidently called for the Mets to challenge the call. After quickly checking in with John Gibbons, manager Carlos Mendoza requested the replay. A few minutes later, Lindor was standing safely on second base.
Juan of Many
Newest Mets right fielder Juan Soto, made his Mets home debut, going 1-4 with a double, and RBI, and a run scored. Soto's 6th-inning RBI double was his 2nd double and third run batted in on the season, and increased the Mets lead to 3-0. He also added a stolen base in the 8th inning, his first as a member of the Mets.
Multi-Inning Max
Mets reliever Max Kranick made his third appearance of the season, throwing the final two innings of the game. Kranick gave up his first hit of the season while adding a strikeout. This was Kranick's second straight multiple inning game, having gone three innings against the Marlins on Tuesday. On the season, his first season with the Mets, the veteran has pitched in 3 games, totaling 5.2 innings, with 2 strikeouts, no walks, one hit, and a miniscule 0.18 WHIP.
